Garage Door Header Rotten
Support the ceiling of the garage using some lumber.
Garage door header rotten. Take out the header by sawing through the center piece. Insert the tip of a flat crowbar under the trim. Take down any trim or any external pieces of wood which are not part of the garage door header. You can t replace a 16 chunk of it and retain any structural integrity.
The jambs are vertical boards that form the side parts of the frame around a garage door. Tap on the back of it with a hammer to drive the tip in as far as you can. Over the years the garage door header has sagged du. Stand the other 2x6 on top of the sill plate and slip its upper end underneath the header that spans the garage door opening.
Step 1 remove the garage door header. Garage doors typically don t require much in the way of regular maintenance but one problem that is not uncommon is rotting door jambs. It is a good idea to sandwich 1 2 plywood or osb between the pieces of 2x dimension lumber. Pry on the crowbar to lift the trim and loosen it.
Lay one board on the garage floor to act as a sill plate. Door jambs are susceptible to wood rot due to their exposure to ground level moisture. The best way to fix this problem is to replace the header.
