Gap Between Stucco Wall And Concrete
In the course of repairs some of the caulk weatherstripping between the trim and the house came off.
Gap between stucco wall and concrete. This first coat is known as the scratch coat this coat helps the final coat bond properly to the wall. To remedy this issue i installed backer rod in the gap that i then covered with concrete crack sealant. Stucco is made of these ingredients as well plus lime. This will hopefully be the fix that keeps that wall of the sunroom nice and dry.
The gap in question was previously filled with either fiberboard or concrete crack sealant but enough of it has deteriorated to conceivably allow moisture in. Apply the first coat of stucco to the concrete surface. This prevents water from moving up and into the gaps between the sill and the cement wall it sits upon. Stucco is cement fine sand and lime mixed with water into a paste that s spread over a surface.
The gap between the wall and the trim is fairly large at least 1 2 inch. Concrete is made of cement water and sand. Allow the scratch coat to harden slightly. I have a stucco sided house that i am repairing repainting.
But you should not in any event seal off the gap behind the stucco as moisture will go through the surface and trapping it will only lead to more decay further up into the wall cavity. Use the flat finishing trowel to spread the stucco evenly across the surface. The differences between stucco wall concrete wall stucco is breathable. A stucco wall is decorative but stucco itself has no strength and cannot support any weight.
